When your toddler heads off to pre-school or day care you’ll want to give them plenty of nutritious food to fuel their day. As you pack their lunch, think about a variety of foods that are easy for them to handle.
Starting out:
- Fruit - mandarins (peeled), grapes, a banana cut in half, or a kiwifruit peeled and cut into pieces.
- Raisins in a little container or an individual raisin box
- Small cheese slices or sticks
- Slices of fruit loaf
- Cherry tomatoes cut in half
As they get older and better at chewing and handling a variety of foods you can try things like:
- Carrot sticks
- Small sandwiches - cheese, ham, avocado, lettuce, Marmite, egg, tuna and grated carrot are all good fillings
- Apple slices (a little lemon juice stops them from browning)
- Mini muffins
- Plain biscuits and rice crackers
